During Shekaran Channar’s Karanavarship from 1886 to 1891 the glory of the Tharavad reached in peak, both financially and in fame. Properties annexed to the Tharavad’s commercial empire included those at Thiruvanathapuram and Chennai.

In the midst of this might, the Tharavad’s Kaaranavars administered at least a 5 mile radius in this region, not to forget the satellite houses dispersed in other locations within the kingdom. The post independence era witnessed the Tharavad descendants’ attention focus towards notable bureaucratic positions within the state and central governments. Subsequently, this century saw many social reformers and qualified professionals hailing from the Tharavad including lawyers, doctors, engineers and administrators.
