After Kochukunju Channar III, Krishnan Channar III became the Karanavar of the Tharavad. During this time a division case was filed by the Padeettathil Shaka claiming share in the Tharavad’s properties. All these cases and the disunity in the family had emptied the treasury of the once thriving family. A new law was also introduced by the Government at that time that allowed the un-divided Hindu families to divide. So, in 1928 it was decided to divide the Tharavad as 12 units, based on the 12 adult members alive at that time. With this division, the position of the Karanavar as the head of the Tharavad ceased to exist. Krishnan Channar III was therefore the last Karanavar of the un-divided Tharavad.

The partition gave the Tharavad to Narayani Channatty II (1876-1969). It was subsequently inherited by A P Chellamma Channatty (1909-1976) and thereafter by her children.
