Now, I realize what it means to be an Alummoottil Channar. Now, I am proud of my ancestry, and the remembrances of my ancestors bring tears to my eyes. The title was bestowed upon the Alummoottil family, by Kayamkulam Raja, for extra-ordinary services by her members on his behalf, and it is passed on exclusively through the female hierarchy. Now, I regret that we never took our title seriously, and made it our common name so that the bonds between my brothers and sisters and I, and all of our children could be shared in the comfort of knowing that we are all part of Alummoottil Channars and Alummoottil Channatties. If ‘marumakkathayam’ was alive today, annan (my brother, Dr. Alummoottil Ravindran Channar) would be the Karanavar.
